Snow, forest bathing and yoga: the other winter in Friuli Venezia Giulia

Ski on the slopes, but also walks in the snow, in the silence of the woods or on the top of the trails. After last year’s stop, the desire for the mountains is back strong and in Friuli Venezia Giulia the winter season in complete safety, with renewed systems, new proposals and regenerating activities for everyone.

From the new chairlift dedicated to the Giro d’Italia to the maintenance and improvement of the slopes, along the entire Alpine arc, from the Dolomites to the Julian Alps passing through Carnia, there are many opportunities to spend relaxing moments in close contact with nature, regenerate and practice sports in an evocative setting.

Giro d’Italia Chairlift

Among the novelties, therefore, the new “Giro d’Italia” chairlift on the Zoncolan, the first six-seater chairlift in the region, stands out. The completely renovated facility is located in one of the symbolic locations for lovers of skiing, but also of cycling: called the Kaiser, known as one of the toughest climbs for athletes, the Zoncolan houses the new facility that can be used even in the hottest season to transport bikes.

Not just snow on the peaks of the Pordenone mountains, Valcellina offers workshops to work straw, cooking classes and courses to learn how to make cheeses and ricotta. For those who love to immerse themselves in nature, the proposals range from skiing to walking, some of which to be practiced with or without snowshoes along the paths of the Pordenone mountains.

Snow activities

In Carnia you can go cross-country skiing with the champions Silvio Fauner and Pietro Piller Cottrer, including downhill runs and tracks. Urban trekking through the streets of the old Sappada village is another activity on the map. For those who want to immerse themselves in the heart of Carnia, stop on the Zoncolan, where ski lovers will find thematic descents and excursions with snowshoes, and horseback riding in the snow. Also in Carnia, Forni di Sopra / Sauris is the ideal destination for a holiday with children and family: hockey and games in the snow, torchlight hikes along the Tagliamento river and the opportunity to try their hand at biathlon.

The Tarvisiano is the right destination if you are looking for a mix of nature, downhill and cross-country skiing, walks and the opportunity to immerse yourself in the woods, with the thousand-year-old forest of Tarvisio, the largest in Italy. The Julian Alps, with the Lussari at the top which houses the Marian sanctuary, will be the backdrop to the walks. Forest bathing and yoga can be practiced in the middle of the trees. Excursions with fat bikes and even historical walks will let you discover this corner of the Friuli Venezia Giulia.

Friuli Venezia Giulia offers approximately 63 miles of slopes served by 41 complex ski lifts and 34 carpets distributed in the six districts of the region: Piancavallo, Sappada, Forni di Sopra-Sauris, Zoncolan, Tarvisio, Sella Nevea.
