It is also a nesting site for loggerhead sea turtles, offering visitors a chance to see these magnificent creatures. The beach is also known as <em>pùligi de nie</em> (snow fleas) because of its round, white and pink pebbles mixed with sand. <strong><a href="https://www.sardegnaturismo.it/en/explore/cala-mariolu" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cala Mariolu</a></strong>, in the Baunei area, owes its name to the monk seal that stole the catch from the fishermen of Ponza, hence <em>mariolo </em>(thief).</p><p>Its panorama is so impressive due to its infinite shades of blue, emerald green and mid-blue, and the snowflake-like pebbles. The 1.650-feet (500 meter)-high cliff that surrounds it drops steeply both to the north and to the south. For this reason, Cala Mariolu can only be reached by land via a difficult path (for experts) through dense Mediterranean forest.</p><p>Watch out: There is no more sun on this stretch of beach from around 4 pm. It therefore makes sense to arrive a little earlier in the day. In addition to being one of the most beautiful beaches in Italy, the bay of Cala Mariolu in Sardinia is even considered one of the most beautiful beaches in Europe! It is therefore definitely worth a visit.</p><p><strong>Special Features:</strong></p><ul class="wp-block-list"><li><strong>Crystal-Clear Waters</strong>: The waters at Cala Mariolu are exceptionally clear with a distinctive emerald hue which adds to its exotic appeal. It&#8217;s a perfect spot for snorkeling and swimming. The underwater visibility allows visitors to see a variety of marine life and colorful fish.</li><li><strong>Unique Pebble Beach</strong>: Unlike typical sandy beaches, Cala Mariolu is composed of small, rounded white pebbles mixed with sand, giving it a unique texture and appearance, and making the water appear even more vibrant.</li><li><strong>Dramatic Limestone Cliffs and Caves</strong>: The beach is surrounded by impressive towering limestone cliffs that provide a dramatic backdrop. These cliffs also feature numerous sea caves that can be explored by boat or while snorkeling. It is a snorkeler’s paradise with rich marine biodiversity.</li></ul><figure class="wp-block-image size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="850" height="565" class="wp-image-3192" style="width: 850px;" src="https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/mariolu_giu11_152_rsz_rsz-1024x681.jpg" alt="Best Beaches in Italy Cala Mariolu @Sardegna Turismo" srcset="https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/mariolu_giu11_152_rsz_rsz-1024x681.jpg 1024w, https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/mariolu_giu11_152_rsz_rsz-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/mariolu_giu11_152_rsz_rsz-768x511.jpg 768w, https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/mariolu_giu11_152_rsz_rsz-360x240.jpg 360w, https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/mariolu_giu11_152_rsz_rsz-600x400.jpg 600w, https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/mariolu_giu11_152_rsz_rsz.jpg 1144w" sizes="(max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px" /></figure><ul class="wp-block-list"><li><strong>Marine Life</strong>: The rich marine environment makes Cala Mariolu a popular spot for divers and snorkelers. Most visitors reach the beach by boat, which can be rented from nearby towns such as Cala Gonone or Santa Maria Navarrese.</li><li><strong>Scenic Hiking Trails</strong>: For those who prefer land-based adventures, there are challenging hiking trails leading to Cala Mariolu, offering stunning views of the coastline and the Mediterranean Sea.</li></ul><div class="wp-block-spacer" style="height: 50px;" aria-hidden="true"> </div><h2 class="wp-block-heading has-text-align-center">Tropea Beach, Calabria</h2><figure class="wp-block-image size-full is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone wp-image-3194" style="width: 850px;" src="https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Tropea_Flickr_simo0082_web.jpg" alt="Best Beaches of Italy Tropea @Flickr_simo0082" width="1024" height="768" srcset="https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Tropea_Flickr_simo0082_web.jpg 1024w, https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Tropea_Flickr_simo0082_web-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Tropea_Flickr_simo0082_web-768x576.jpg 768w, https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Tropea_Flickr_simo0082_web-80x60.jpg 80w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure><p>In the far south, at the end of the Italian boot in Calabria, lies the small town of <strong><a href="https://www.italia.it/en/calabria/things-to-do/tropea" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Tropea</a></strong>. With its well-preserved old town and its famous cathedral, <em>Santa Maria dell&#8217;Isola</em>, the town of 6,500 inhabitants is one of the most popular destinations for tourists, not only from Europe. It is not without reason that the town is also known as the &#8220;Pearl of Calabria&#8221;.</p><p>The special thing about Tropea: a picturesque sandy beach with azure blue water lies directly below the old town. And that&#8217;s not all. If you want a particularly quiet place, you can simply drive a little further along the coast. There are many more small bays to discover, which are a little more secluded. The rock formations and caves also invite you to go on a discovery tour.</p><p><strong>Special Features:</strong></p><ul class="wp-block-list"><li><strong>Stunning Scenery</strong><br />Tropea Beach is renowned for its breathtaking scenery. The picturesque town of Tropea, perched atop these cliffs, offers a stunning backdrop, with its charming historic buildings and narrow streets.</li><li><strong>Pristine Waters</strong><br />Pristine clear and turquoise waters make it a popular destination for swimming, snorkeling, and other water activities. The clean and inviting sea is one of the main attractions for visitors.</li><li><strong>Soft, White Sand</strong><br />Tropea Beach features soft, white sand that contrasts beautifully with the blue of the sea. This fine sand makes it a comfortable place to relax, sunbathe, and enjoy the coastal beauty.</li><li><strong>Historic Charme</strong><br />One of the most iconic sights near Tropea Beach is Santa Maria dell&#8217;Isola, a historic monastery situated on a rocky promontory overlooking the beach. This picturesque church adds to the charm and historical significance of the area, providing a stunning vantage point for panoramic views of the coastline.</li></ul><figure class="wp-block-image alignleft size-full is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-3344 size-medium" style="width: 850px;" src="https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Tropea_Flickr_Caterina-Policaro-300x224.jpg" alt="Best Beaches Tropea @Flickr_Caterina Policaro" width="300" height="224" srcset="https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Tropea_Flickr_Caterina-Policaro-300x224.jpg 300w, https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Tropea_Flickr_Caterina-Policaro-1024x766.jpg 1024w, https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Tropea_Flickr_Caterina-Policaro-768x575.jpg 768w, https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Tropea_Flickr_Caterina-Policaro-1536x1149.jpg 1536w, https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Tropea_Flickr_Caterina-Policaro-2048x1532.jpg 2048w, https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Tropea_Flickr_Caterina-Policaro-80x60.jpg 80w" sizes="(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px" /></figure><ul class="wp-block-list"><li><strong>Rich History and Culture</strong><br />The town of Tropea itself is rich in history and culture, dating back to ancient times. <h3 class="wp-block-heading">New rules against mass tourism</h3>

<p>If you want to explore the <strong>Cinque Terre</strong> on the Italian Riviera in the high season, you have to be prepared for a new regime. The national park has introduced several measures to better manage the flow of tourists.</p>

<p><strong><a href="https://www.parconazionale5terre.it/Eindex.php" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cinque Terre</a></strong>, which is made up of five picturesque villages on the Ligurian Riviera, have issued new rules for travelers. Among other things, higher prices are intended to stem the flow of tourists.</p>

<p>This means that train tickets are more expensive in the high season. At weekends, on public holidays and generally in summer, tourists will pay twice as much for train travel between villages as before. Specifically, the regional ticket for the six-kilometer (4 miles) route between <em>Riomaggiore</em> and <em>Manarola</em> now costs ten euros instead of five. Locals, on the other hand, benefit from discounts.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="368" src="https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/Cinque-Terre-1024x368.jpg" alt="Cinque Terre National Park" class="wp-image-2959" srcset="https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/Cinque-Terre-1024x368.jpg 1024w, https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/Cinque-Terre-300x108.jpg 300w, https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/Cinque-Terre-768x276.jpg 768w, https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/Cinque-Terre-1536x552.jpg 1536w, https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/Cinque-Terre.jpg 1980w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>In the fight against mass tourism, the <strong>Cinque Terre National Park</strong> has also taken countermeasures. Around the Italian public holidays, the &#8220;Sentiero Verde Azzurro&#8221;, one of the most popular hiking routes in the region, is now subject to a &#8220;one-way system&#8221; &#8211; from 9 am to 2 pm. The new regime was implemented for the first time in April and early May.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Shoes will also be checked</h3>

<p>The measure, which was tested last year, concerns the route from <em>Monterosso </em>to <em>Vernazza</em>. In order to regulate access to the hiking trail, there are checks at the entrance to <em>Monterosso</em>. Among other things, they check whether visitors are equipped with the right footwear for the hike on the steep paths. If the crowds on the &#8220;Sentiero Verde Azzurro&#8221; are too big, the excursionists are diverted to alternative routes.<br>The initial assessment of those responsible is positive. Donatella Bianchi, President of the National Park, says: &#8220;I took a look for myself on the path between Mᴏnterosso and Vernazza. It was orderly and respectful tourism, which is good for the <strong>Cinque Terre</strong>.&#8221; The measures against mass tourism apply in the national park 19 days a year.</p>

<p>Fine-dining rooftop restaurant <em>Le Cupole</em> serves a fusion menu of Ligurian and Piedmont cuisine that’s mentioned in the Michelin Guide. <em>La Veranda</em> is a bistro located on the main floor terrace, serving traditional Italian dishes as well as a selection of wines and cocktails. Opened in 2023, the <em>Flamingo Pool Bar &amp; Pizzeria</em> is a gourmet poolside pizzeria.</p>

<p>The <em>Marina di Bardi Portofino Beach Club</em> is set to debut on May 3, offering an exclusive “feet in the water” experience along the Portofino coast. Located within the Grand Hotel Bristol, this private beach enclave provides towel service and personalized assistance from the property’s Beach Concierge. </p>

<p>Additionally, <em>Nuar Art Gallery</em> is slated to open on April 27, marking the return of its partnership with Grand Hotel Bristol. Offering an exciting lineup of art events throughout spring and summer, including a permanent gallery and live performances, this collaboration kicks off with Sebastiano Bottaro’s exhibition, “A Devil In Winter.”</p>

<p>The <em>Erre Spa</em> spans 22,000 square feet and features TechnoGym equipment, multi-sensory areas and themed relaxation spaces, a Turkish bath, an emotional shower, and an outdoor pool with views of the sea. It redefines La Dolce Vita with contemporary concept of hospitality, accentuating exclusive comforts and high-quality services.</p>

<p>A delightful waterfront stroll from the hotel takes guests to the center of Rapallo, while a <em>fin-de-siècle</em> funicular transports them to the <em>Sanctuary of Montallegro</em>, providing a panoramic view of the entire gulf. All the renowned destinations are easily accessible, from Santa Margherita Ligure to globally famous Portofino. The Cinque Terre can be reached by both train and, even better, by private boat.</p>

<p>The association of the &#8220;Most Beautiful Villages in Italy&#8221; (I Borghi più belli d&#8217;Italia) added 14 new villages, making it now 348 municipalities certified as Italy&#8217;s Most Beautiful Villages.</p>

<p>In addition to the cultural and historical importance of the places, sustainable aspects of the tourist infrastructure, an intact old town without car traffic, the preservation of the architectural fabric, living traditions as well as the promotion of the quality of life play a significant role in the award as one of the most beautiful villages in Italy.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">14 new Villages in the “Borghi più belli d’Italia” association</h3>

<p>Called the village of churches, <strong>Badolato</strong> is a medieval village characterized by narrow and winding alleys that intersect between the houses close to each other. Badolato is situated on a hill a few kilometers from the Ionic coast in Calabria. The hill dominates the wide valley of the torrent Gallipari, whose harsh strokes and the beauty can be admired in all their splendor. The road to the mountain and the plateau of Serre connects the ancient village with the s.s. 106 thus allowing the visitor to go in just a few minutes from the hot amenities of the ionian coast to the charm of a mountain still unspoiled. It divides in Badolato Village (or higher) and Badolato Marina. In Badolato&#8217;s ancient village you can visit 12 churches (the other 2 are located in the hamlet of Marina) that, for their position, seem almost to protect the country from all four sides.</p>

<p><strong>Daily life in Italian places is often filled with joyful design and unique masterpieces.&nbsp;Have you ever wondered which are the most colorful destinations in Italy? Here are just a few places that</strong> <strong>literally scream colorful Italy.</strong> </p>

<p><strong>Cinque Terre </strong>has won, by far, the first place with its eight-color palette of Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola und Riomaggiore. The centuries-old coastal villages are known for their colorful houses and terraced vineyards on the steep slopes. Five&nbsp;Ligurian villages&nbsp;overlooking the sea, with the triumph of Mediterranean scrub and colorful houses. For centuries, the villages could only be reached on foot or by sea. Cinque Terre is actually a National Park and a UNESCO World Heritage. A breathtaking view of the sea and the rugged coastline of this protected section of the Ligurian Riviera makes every hike an unforgettable experience.</p>

<p>Equally vivid are the colors that fascinate visitors on the lagoon island of <strong>Burano</strong>. It is one of the most densely populated islands in the Venice lagoon. And, it might be the most colorful island in the world. Burano is an island where many fishermen used to live. According to a local legend, they painted their houses in different colors so that they could recognize them from a distance while fishing. This way they could always return home safely even in heavy fog. No cars are allowed on the island and it can only be reached by <em>Vaporetto</em> (Water taxi). &nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="683" src="https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/Procida-1024x683.jpg" alt="Procida / Italian Capital of Culture 2022" class="wp-image-2009" srcset="https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/Procida-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/Procida-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/Procida-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/Procida-360x240.jpg 360w, https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/Procida-600x400.jpg 600w, https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/Procida.jpg 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p><strong>Procida</strong> is the new Italian Capital of Culture 2022. With its colorful houses and idyllic beaches, it has often served as a film set. Located in the Gulf of Naples, it can be reached from Naples in less than an hour&#8217;s boat ride and delights its guests with picturesque villages, dreamy bathing bays and vegetation rich in cacti, fig and citrus trees due to its volcanic origin. With the title of Capital of Culture, the small island will attract wider attention. At the same time, in its role, it wants to be a symbol of slow tourism, with a focus on sustainability and responsible treatment of residents and the environment, away from mass tourism. &nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>There are 25 candles on the cake of <strong>Grandi Giardini Italiani</strong> in 2022, which today represents 146 gardens in 14 regions. To celebrate the anniversary of its foundation, the network of the most beautiful gardens in Italy, has planned a series of exhibitions and events, dedicated to unique treasures of Italy’s beauty.</p>

<p>In 1997, Judith Wade, an English entrepreneur, founded the circuit. The main objective was to introduce the immense artistic and botanical heritage of Italian gardens to the general public in Italy and abroad. It is undeniable that the staggering growth in the number of visitors to the Grandi Giardini Italiani over the last twenty-five years is not the result of a “natural” phenomenon, but rather the improvement of reception policies and the creation of events and educational trails.</p>

<p class="has-black-color has-text-color">Since its creation, Grandi Giardini Italiani has made Horticultural tourism in Italy known, a source of funding for the maintenance of these extraordinary cultural assets, which represent the most famous Made in Italy in the world. The increase in the number of visitors is also due to the growing interest on the part of the public for themes close to nature, the environment and the landscape.&nbsp;Over 8 million visitors were registered in 2019<strong>.&nbsp;</strong>With the know-how accumulated in 25 years of work in the sector, Grandi Giardini Italiani has to its credit the organization of shows, conferences and exhibitions.&nbsp; And to celebrate the 25th anniversary, a rich program of events is planned.</p>

<p>Among the most interesting events is <strong>The Paradise of the English in the Ligurian Riviera.&nbsp;Stories, landscapes and people</strong>, on March 25 and 26, 2022 at <strong>Villa Marigola in Lerici, near La Spezia in Liguria</strong>.&nbsp;The conference focuses attention on the incredible heritage of parks and residences, created by illustrious English personalities who, between the second half of the nineteenth century and the first half of the twentieth century, found their Eden in Liguria.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/Grandi-Giardini-Italiani_villamarigola_phdariofusaro_courtesycreditagricole-1024x681.jpg" alt="Villa Marigola Lerici, Liguria" class="wp-image-1749" width="850" height="565" srcset="https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/Grandi-Giardini-Italiani_villamarigola_phdariofusaro_courtesycreditagricole-1024x681.jpg 1024w, https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/Grandi-Giardini-Italiani_villamarigola_phdariofusaro_courtesycreditagricole-300x199.jpg 300w, https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/Grandi-Giardini-Italiani_villamarigola_phdariofusaro_courtesycreditagricole-768x511.jpg 768w, https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/Grandi-Giardini-Italiani_villamarigola_phdariofusaro_courtesycreditagricole-360x240.jpg 360w, https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/Grandi-Giardini-Italiani_villamarigola_phdariofusaro_courtesycreditagricole-600x400.jpg 600w, https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/Grandi-Giardini-Italiani_villamarigola_phdariofusaro_courtesycreditagricole.jpg 1280w" sizes="(max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px" /><figcaption>@Dario Fusaro/Courtesy Credit Agricole</figcaption></figure>

<p class="has-black-color has-text-color">There will also be events designed for families.&nbsp; On April 18 &#8211; Easter Monday &#8211; there is a special edition of the traditional&nbsp;<strong>Botanical Treasure Hunt of Grandi Giardini Italiani:</strong>&nbsp;children aged 6 to 10 will have fun discovering the secrets of plants and ecology and discovering the surprises along the way, to the point of conquering, clue after clue, the coveted certificate of “Little Botanist”.</p>

<p>Special openings are also planned in summer, such as those of the&nbsp;<strong>Garden of Villa Marigola,</strong>&nbsp;organized by the Friends of Villa Marigola Association, in collaboration with Grandi Giardini Italiani.</p>

<p><strong>Villa D&#8217;este, in Tivoli</strong>, the masterpiece residence of the Italian Renaissance and Unesco World Heritage Site, will instead be the protagonist from&nbsp;October 13 to November 1, 2022&nbsp;with the first edition of the exhibition “<strong>The botanical collections at Villa d&#8217;Este</strong>”.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/Grandi-Giardini-Italiani_villa_deste-1024x498.jpg" alt="Villa d'Este Tivoli, Rome" class="wp-image-1751" width="850" height="412" srcset="https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/Grandi-Giardini-Italiani_villa_deste-1024x498.jpg 1024w, https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/Grandi-Giardini-Italiani_villa_deste-300x146.jpg 300w, https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/Grandi-Giardini-Italiani_villa_deste-768x373.jpg 768w, https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/Grandi-Giardini-Italiani_villa_deste.jpg 1280w" sizes="(max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px" /></figure>

<p class="has-black-color has-text-color">2022 will also be the year of the&nbsp;first edition of the “<strong>Platinum Rose of the Great Italian Gardens</strong>”&nbsp;award, an award for the best floral designers.&nbsp;Every year, the best floral masters in Italy will be invited to express their talent, trying their hand at a theme identified by the organization as a leitmotif.&nbsp; The focus chosen for 2022 is &#8221;&nbsp;<strong>Flowers and colors, from Rubens to Baroque</strong>&nbsp;&#8221; and will be held at Villa Marigola in Lerici from December 7 December to December 11, 2022. In the halls of the residence the three professionals crowned&nbsp;<strong>Florist of the Year</strong>&nbsp;will exhibit their works, inspired by the baroque theme.</p>

<p>More info on the various gardens, and to book tickets and visits is available at <strong><a href="https://www.grandigiardini.it/lang_EN" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Grandi Giardini Italiani</a></strong> </p>

<p class="has-black-color has-text-color">Claude Monet&#8217;s impressionism, including his famous <em>Water Lilies</em>, is the protagonist at Palazzo Reale in Milan until January 30, 2022. Promoted by the Municipality of Milan and produced by Palazzo Reale and Arthemisia, the exhibition is curated by Marianne Mathieu and it is created in collaboration with the Musée Marmottan Monet in Paris, from which the entire body of works comes, and with the Académie Des Beaux-Arts, Institut de France.</p>

<p class="has-black-color has-text-color">The halls of the Royal Palace will welcome the public with 53 works by Monet, including his <em>Water Lilies</em> (1916-1919), <em>The Parliament. Reflections on the Thames </em>(1905) and <em>The roses</em> (1925-1926), his last and magical work: an extraordinary loan not only because it brings together some of the spearheads of Monet&#8217;s artistic production, but also for the enormous difficulty of this period in making the works travel from one country to another.</p>

<div style="height:24px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="jeff-koons-in-florence">Jeff Koons in Florence</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="683" src="https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/Jeff-Koons.jpg" alt="Jeff Koons exhibition Florence" class="wp-image-1782" srcset="https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/Jeff-Koons.jpg 1024w, https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/Jeff-Koons-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/Jeff-Koons-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/Jeff-Koons-360x240.jpg 360w, https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/Jeff-Koons-600x400.jpg 600w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>©ElaBialkowska OKNO Studio</figcaption></figure>

<p class="has-black-color has-text-color">Contemporary art is the protagonist&nbsp;in Florence with Jeff Koons.&nbsp; The large sculptures and installations of the American artist will be open until January 30, 2022<strong>.&nbsp;Shine</strong>, the exhibition curated by Arturo Galansino and Joachim Pissarro, developed in close dialogue with the artist, the exhibition hosts loans from the most important collections and major international museums, proposing the original interpretation of Koons&#8217; art concept of shine understood as a game of ambiguity between splendor and glow, being and appearing.&nbsp; The highlights are works that tell the story of&nbsp;over 40 years of career, from the famous sculptures in perfectly polished metal that replicate luxury objects, such as the&nbsp;<em>Baccarat Crystal Set</em>&nbsp;(1986) or the iconic inflatable toys such as the famous <em>Rabbit </em>(1986) and <em>Balloon Dog</em> (Red) (1994-2000), up to the interpretation of pop culture characters such as <em>Hulk </em>(Tubas) (2004-2018).</p>

<div style="height:24px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="escher-in-genoa">Escher in Genoa</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/Escher.jpg" alt="Escher exhibition Genoa" class="wp-image-1784" width="850" height="448" srcset="https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/Escher.jpg 641w, https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/Escher-300x158.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px" /></figure>

<p>Optical illusions and impossible geometries, here is&nbsp;<strong>Escher</strong>, who has landed at&nbsp;Palazzo Ducale in Genoa&nbsp;in a major exhibition until February 20, 2022. It is the largest and most complete anthological exhibition dedicated to the Dutch genius Maurits Cornelis Escher.&nbsp; In the city of the Lantern, it is possible to admire over 200 of his works and works, from <em>Hand</em> with a reflecting sphere (1935) to <em>Vincolo d&#8217;unione</em> (1956), to&nbsp;<em>Metamorphosis II</em>&nbsp;(1939), <em>Giorno e notte</em> (1938) and the series of the <em>Emblemata</em>, to discover the perspective, geometric and compositional paradoxes that have inspired many artists to follow.&nbsp; And on show you can also literally immerse yourself in his illusions and his universe thanks to immersive rooms&nbsp;and impossible structures, which will be compared with works by great artists such as Giovanni Battista Piranesi (1720 &#8211; 1778) and Victor Vasarely (1906 &#8211; 1997).</p>

<div style="height:24px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="klimt-in-rome">Klimt in Rome</h3>

<p>The Viennese art of the Secession animates the&nbsp;Museum of Rome.&nbsp;<strong>Klimt, the Secession and Italy</strong>&nbsp;is the name of the exhibition that brings&nbsp;Gustav Klimt&nbsp;back&nbsp;to Italy 110 years after his participation in the 1911 International Art Exhibition. The Capital will host in this exhibition some of the artist&#8217;s masterpieces from the&nbsp;Belvedere Museum of Vienna, from the&nbsp;Klimt Foundation&nbsp;and from public and private collections such as the&nbsp;Neue Galerie Graz.&nbsp; The exhibition traces the life and artistic production of Klimt, underlining his role as co-founder of the Viennese Secession and investigating his relationship with Italy, the destination of his travels and the place of some of his exhibition successes.&nbsp; There are about 200 works on display, including paintings, drawings, vintage posters and sculptures by Klimt and the artists of his circle.&nbsp; In addition to iconic works such as the famous&nbsp;<em>Giuditta I</em>, <em>Signora in bianco</em>, <em>Amiche I</em> (Le Sorelle) and&nbsp;<em>Amalie Zuckerkandl</em>, it&nbsp;is also possible to admire quite exceptional loans such as <em>The Bride</em> of the Klimt Foundation and&nbsp;<em>Portrait of a Lady</em>, stolen from the Ricci Oddi Gallery in Piacenza in 1997 and fortunately recovered in 2019.</p>

<div style="height:24px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="venice-at-the-doge-s-palace">Venice at the Doge&#8217;s Palace</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/Venice-The-Doges-Palace.jpg" alt="Venice exhibition at the Doge's Palace" class="wp-image-1786" width="850" height="574"/></figure>

<p>This is the year of the Serenissima and the foundation of the lagoon city is also celebrated through its art. <strong>Venetia.&nbsp;1600 Births and Rebirths</strong>&nbsp;is the exhibition that can be visited until 25 March 2022 in Venice,&nbsp;Palazzo Ducale &#8211; Doge&#8217;s Apartment<strong>.&nbsp;</strong>A journey through the events of Venice, between moments of crisis and ruptures, and phases of regeneration and renewal.&nbsp; To illustrate the salient moments of the history and identity of Venice, there will be&nbsp;works by great artists<strong>,</strong>&nbsp;architects and men of letters who worked in the lagoon over almost a millennium.&nbsp; These are names such as Carpaccio, Tiziano, Veronese,&nbsp;Tiepolo, Canaletto,Guardi and others, along with a selection of miniatures, prints, drawings, fabrics, sculptures, ceramics, architectural models, glass and everyday objects.&nbsp;Focus on some iconic monuments, first and foremost the Basilica of San Marco, the Doge&#8217;s Palace, the Rialto Bridge, the Fondaco dei Tedeschi, the churches of the Redentore and Santa Maria della Salute, the Gran Teatro la Fenice and the Campanile of San Marco.</p>

<p>Set against the cinematic backdrop of the Italian Riviera, <a href="https://www.belmond.com/hotels/europe/italy/portofino/belmond-splendido-mare/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Splendido Mare</a><a href="https://discover-italy-magazine.us7.list-manage.com/track/click?u=b76e079357410386022c81466&amp;id=cc8a642529&amp;e=659f66bb2a" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">,</a> A Belmond Hotel, reopened in May 2021, following a complete renovation.</p>

<p>Each of the 14 rooms and suites of the charming guest house have been carefully crafted to tell the story of the nautical heritage of the harbor town. The traditional Ligurian colors of the harbor buildings &#8211; a palette of amber, terracotta and sea green &#8211; are used to accent the archways and ceilings. The design of the wooden floor was inspired by the church of San Giorgio in Portofino. The complete renovation mirrors the surrounding natural beauty of the Ligurian Coast and the timeless glamour of La Dolce Vita.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/SPM-ACC-SUI-14_web.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-1046" width="690" height="468" srcset="https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/SPM-ACC-SUI-14_web.jpg 895w, https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/SPM-ACC-SUI-14_web-300x204.jpg 300w, https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/SPM-ACC-SUI-14_web-768x522.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 690px) 100vw, 690px" /></figure>

<p>Throughout the hotel, guests will find detailed references to nautical heritage blended with the glamour of the 1950s and mid-century modern references. The art collection features 100 pieces of individually works curated by ARTIQ, with specially commissioned items by Italian artist, Gabriele Cappelli.</p>

<p>The new restaurant, <a href="https://www.davmare.com/en" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">DaV Mare</a>, in partnership with Da Vittorio Group, brings a new level of gastronomic excellence to the Ligurian Coast and is set to become the beating heart of the Piazzetta.</p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Sailing the gentle sea</strong></h4>

<p>Departing from the harbor, guests can set sail aboard a traditional Ligurian fishing boat, Gozzo, for a slow and gentle cruise along the beautiful coastline to San Fruttuoso Bay choosing to stop for a swim to the submerged statue of Christ the Abyss, or a dive into the crystal-clear waters of Punta Chiappa. A picnic lunch can be prepared by the hotel’s restaurant, DaV Mare or guests can opt to stop for fresh seafood caught by local fishermen.</p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>In the footsteps of Romance</strong></h4>

<p>Treks take the route along the footpath, named after a fabled Italian romance, the ‘Path of the Kiss’ where two young lovers who were separated by their families took their last embrace. The exhilarating 8-mile stretch from San Rocco, passing through Camogli and onto San Fruttuoso features steep paths and sharp drops with unbelievable views. Half day excursions to Monte di Portofino are also available and can be accompanied by a botanist guide to reveal the benefits of the mountain herbs for health and beauty.</p>

<p>Wild beaches and pristine landscapes surrounded by the scents of Mediterranean vegetation, hidden coasts caressed by a turquoise sea that is just as good as any tropical paradise: from Liguria to Sardinia, from Veneto to Campania, Italy enshrines breathtaking beaches where you can enjoy the sea and feast your eyes with magnificent views. Here are Italy’s most scenic beaches.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Scala dei Turchi, Sicily</h3>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full is-resized"><img decoding="async" src="https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Scala-dei-Turchi.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-1180" width="650" srcset="https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Scala-dei-Turchi.jpg 597w, https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Scala-dei-Turchi-300x195.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 597px) 100vw, 597px" /></figure></div>

<p>Located between Realmonte and Porto Empedocle, in the Agrigento area, <em><a href="http://www.visitsicily.info/en/scala-dei-turchi/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Scala dei Turchi</a></em> is one of a kind in Italy: it is not a beach but a dazzling white cliff, slowly carved by the wind and the sea. According to legend, it was once a shelter for Turkish ships plundering along the Sicilian coast from here. To get to the beach you have to pass along a natural staircase carved into the limestone. All around are sheltered coves.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Cala Luna, Sardinia</strong></h3>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full is-resized"><img decoding="async" src="https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Cala-Luna.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-1182" width="650" srcset="https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Cala-Luna.jpg 597w, https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Cala-Luna-300x195.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 597px) 100vw, 597px" /></figure></div>

<p>Cala Luna is on the eastern coast of Sardinia, in the Gulf of Orosei. It is one of the most peculiar beaches on the island for its wilderness: <a href="https://www.sardegnaturismo.it/en/explore/cala-luna" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><em>Cala Lun</em>a</a>&nbsp;is framed by rocky sides and arduous peaks, and dotted with caves, for its crystal clear sea, highly valued for underwater fishing and diving. The golden sandy beach and shallow waters make it suitable for children. You can reach this gem only by sea and by tourist boats, or by following an strenuous path (for skilled hikers); however, you will find a bar and restaurant there.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>La Fontelina, Campania</strong></h3>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full is-resized"><img decoding="async" src="https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/La-Fontelina-Faraglioni.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-1184" width="650" srcset="https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/La-Fontelina-Faraglioni.jpg 597w, https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/La-Fontelina-Faraglioni-300x195.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 597px) 100vw, 597px" /></figure></div>

<p>One of the most scenic and exclusive beaches in the world,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.fontelina-capri.com/en/index" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><em>La Fontelina</em></a>&nbsp;is nestled between the rocks and the sea, where you can take a huge dive in front of the famous&nbsp;<em><strong>Faraglion</strong>i</em>. An enchanting place that seems to be created as a film set, the beach was already a place of idleness in Roman times. Wearing beach shoes is a must, but the satisfaction of your senses is assured. Fontelina has been a renowned beach club for years &#8211; with sun-beds and beach umbrellas, a bar and a restaurant; you can get there following the little road that begins from the Belvedere di Tragara.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>San Fruttuoso Bay, Liguria</strong></h3>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full is-resized"><img decoding="async" src="https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/San-Fruttuoso-Bay.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-1186" width="650" srcset="https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/San-Fruttuoso-Bay.jpg 597w, https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/San-Fruttuoso-Bay-300x195.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 597px) 100vw, 597px" /></figure></div>

<p>It is a small bay nestled between the Ligurian Mountains, between Camogli and Portofino, in the&nbsp;<strong>Regional Natural Park of Portofino,</strong>&nbsp;with a beautiful turquoise sea &#8211; a marine protected area: the small&nbsp;beach of <em>San Fruttuoso</em>&nbsp;is dominated by a 12th century Abbey that bears its name; in its waters, about 17 meters deep, it houses the submerged statue of&nbsp;<strong>Christ of the Abyss</strong>. The beach is made of pebbles, with a beach resort and rest stops, and can be reached by boat from the nearby places (also from Genoa) or on foot in about two hours, following the paths in the park.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Collelungo Beach, Tuscany</strong></h3>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full is-resized"><img decoding="async" src="https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Collelungo-Beach.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-1188" width="650" srcset="https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Collelungo-Beach.jpg 597w, https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Collelungo-Beach-300x195.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 597px) 100vw, 597px" /></figure></div>

<p>This is a wild paradise, nestled between rocky cliffs and golden sandy dunes covered with lillies and pine forests. It is overlooked by the Tower of Collelungo, near Marina di Alberese, in the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.visittuscany.com/en/attractions/the-natural-park-of-maremma/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Maremma Nature Park.</a> <em>Collelungo Beach</em> is quiet and rarely visited. You could also spot some foxes or herds of cows lying on the beach. Surrounded by sand dunes and the typical Maremma vegetation; the sea is calm and clear. This is an ideal place for lovers of nature and tranquillity. It is accessible from the Visitor Center along the &#8220;A2 Le Torri&#8221; route (5.8 km) or from the beach of Marina di Alberese, and then proceeding south for a few miles.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Scialara Beach, Puglia</strong></h3>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full is-resized"><img decoding="async" src="https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Scialara-Beach-Pizzomunno.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-1190" width="650" srcset="https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Scialara-Beach-Pizzomunno.jpg 597w, https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Scialara-Beach-Pizzomunno-300x195.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 597px) 100vw, 597px" /></figure></div>

<p>Located in the Gargano promontory, Vieste&#8217;s magnificent<strong><em>&nbsp;</em></strong><em>Scialara Beach</em>&nbsp;is located next to the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.viaggiareinpuglia.it/at/134/parco/5080/en/Pizzomunno" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Pizzomunno</a>, the impressive limestone monolith south of the town. It is 82 feet high and stretches its shade from the afternoon and, according to the legend, recalls the story of two lovers and a jealous mermaid. The beach &#8211; also known as &#8220;Spiaggia del Castello&#8221; because is dominated by a Suevian Castle &#8211; is 2 miles long, with golden sand, a crystal clear seabed, shallow waters and it is lived up by many beach resorts. </p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Arco Magno Beach, Calabria</strong></h3>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full is-resized"><img decoding="async" src="https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Arco-Magno-Beach.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-1192" width="650" srcset="https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Arco-Magno-Beach.jpg 597w, https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Arco-Magno-Beach-300x195.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 597px) 100vw, 597px" /></figure></div>

<p>Overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea not far from Cosenza, in a small inlet between majestic cliffs and a spectacular sea in the&nbsp;Gulf of Policastro, there is a very fascinating beach: the&nbsp;<em><a href="http://www.turiscalabria.it/website/?lang=en&amp;categoria=/where/grotte-isole/&amp;view_type=s&amp;id=173&amp;title=the-breath-taking-beauty-of-the-arco-magno.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Spiaggia dell&#8217;Arco Magno</a></em>, so called because of the rock arch that separates it from the sea. It is not easy to be reached: it can be accessed by sea, from the nearby Marinella beach, or venturing along an impervious path carved into the rock (from the top of the path, you can enjoy a truly remarkable view).</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Porto Caleri Beach, Veneto</strong></h3>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full is-resized"><img decoding="async" src="https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Porto-Caleri-Beach.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-1194" width="650" srcset="https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Porto-Caleri-Beach.jpg 597w, https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Porto-Caleri-Beach-300x195.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 597px) 100vw, 597px" /></figure></div>

<p>It is located in Rosolina, in the&nbsp;<strong>Po Delta Park</strong>, hidden by the pinewood of a naturalistic oasis, and never crowded: the&nbsp;<em>beach of Porto Caleri</em>&nbsp;is a long sandy beach of four miles, wild and rich in species of flora and fauna, where the wind shapes the sand dunes changing the landscape year after year. You can reach the beach through three pedestrian paths along wooden walkways suspended over the water and the vegetation, located inside the Coastal Botanical Garden.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Cala Jannita, Basilicata</strong></h3>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full is-resized"><img decoding="async" src="https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Cala-Jannita.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-1196" width="650" srcset="https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Cala-Jannita.jpg 597w, https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Cala-Jannita-300x195.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 597px) 100vw, 597px" /></figure></div>

<p>A long beach of black sand surrounded by rocks and rocky spurs on the edge of the&nbsp;<strong>Illicini Natural Park</strong>, <em>Cala Jannita</em>, opposite the islet of Santo Janni, is one of the most famous and scenic beaches in the&nbsp;Maratea&nbsp;area. Awarded with the Blue Flag, the &#8220;black beach&#8221; is free and accessible on foot from a path that crosses the Mediterranean scrub. The beach is the perfect starting point to visit the nearby&nbsp;<strong>Grotta della Sciabella</strong>.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Le Fumarole, Campania</strong></h3>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full is-resized"><img decoding="async" src="https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Le-Fumarole.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-1198" width="650" srcset="https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Le-Fumarole.jpg 597w, https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Le-Fumarole-300x195.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 597px) 100vw, 597px" /></figure></div>

<p>A must-see for all those visiting&nbsp;Ischia, <em>Le Fumarole</em> &#8211; a few steps away from the village of&nbsp;Sant’Angelo&nbsp;&#8211; is a very special beach where the volcanic activity in the island is visible to the naked eye. In ancient times, the &#8220;<strong>fumaroles</strong>&#8220;, jets of water vapor and gas, and the heat released from the ground were used to heal the body by taking advantage of the benefits of nature. The vapors and bubbles rising from the sand can be seen going underwater with a scuba mask.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Le Dune, Sardinia</strong></h3>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full is-resized"><img decoding="async" src="https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Le-Dune.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-1200" width="650" srcset="https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Le-Dune.jpg 597w, https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Le-Dune-300x195.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 597px) 100vw, 597px" /></figure></div>

<p>A long stretch of white sand dotted with Mediterranean vegetation, between soft sand dunes and a turquoise sea:&nbsp;<a href="https://www.sardegnaturismo.it/en/explore/le-dune" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Le Dune</a>&nbsp;beach is located in the southwestern tip of Sardinia. The beach of <em>Le Dune</em> offers a dreamy landscape, with Mediterranean scrub that interrupts the whiteness with touches of fresh vegetation, while rosemary bushes give off their essence. This paradise, also known as&nbsp;<em>Is Arenas Biancas</em>, is the stretch of&nbsp;Porto Pino&nbsp;that is part of the territory of&nbsp;Teulada. The natural oasis is home to pink flamingos and egrets, and the sand is broken by lilies and wild rosemary shrubs; a little further north is a lagoon area with ponds. It is an oasis of incomparable beauty that will be one of your most precious memories: intense sunsets, the surrounding territory acting as a natural frame and long walks. </p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>The Regina Giovanna Baths, Campania</strong></h3>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full is-resized"><img decoding="async" src="https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Regina-Giovanna-Baths.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-1202" width="650" srcset="https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Regina-Giovanna-Baths.jpg 597w, https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Regina-Giovanna-Baths-300x195.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 597px) 100vw, 597px" /></figure></div>

<p>It is said that here, where there was a villa of the Roman age, between the XIV and XV century came to bath Queen Joan of Anjou, seduced by the beautiful sea and the suggestive location.&nbsp;<em>The Regina Giovanna Baths</em>&nbsp;are fascinating natural pools at the foot of a cliff in&nbsp;<strong>Capo di Sorrento,</strong>&nbsp;reachable with a fifteen-minute walk. The seabed is pebbly, the sea immediately deep, but the panorama is exciting: from here, the view ranges from the Gulf of Naples to the Sorrento Peninsula, to Ischia and Procida.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Punta Aderci, Abruzzo</strong></h3>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full is-resized"><img decoding="async" src="https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Punta-Aderci.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-1204" width="650" srcset="https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Punta-Aderci.jpg 597w, https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Punta-Aderci-300x195.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 597px) 100vw, 597px" /></figure></div>

<p>Long sandy beaches interspersed with pebbles, behind cliffs, pine forests on the sea and hiking trails:&nbsp;<a href="https://www.puntaderci.it/la-riserva/punta-aderci/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Punta Aderci</a>&nbsp;is a nature reserve in the Abruzzo coastal strip of great naturalistic interest. The reserve includes the&nbsp;<em>Punta Penna Beach</em>, a marine amphitheater much appreciated for the clearness of its waters and the unspoiled nature, the&nbsp;<em>Libertini Beach</em>, from which a dirt road leads to the promontory, and the&nbsp;<em>Mottagrossa Beach:</em> this is where one of the wildest and solitary stretches of coast in the Adriatic Sea begins.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Tonnara Beach, Sicily</strong></h3>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full is-resized"><img decoding="async" src="https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Tonnara-Beach.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-1206" width="650" srcset="https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Tonnara-Beach.jpg 597w, https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Tonnara-Beach-300x195.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 597px) 100vw, 597px" /></figure></div>

<p>Included in the&nbsp;<a href="http://www.visitsicily.info/en/vendicari-reserve/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Vendicari Reserve</a>, a marvelous natural oasis in eastern Sicily, among coastal dunes, saltpans, fresh water ponds and miles of beaches. The Tonnara Beach &#8211; which is among the most beautiful stretches &#8211; is a very long sandy coast of unspoiled nature with shallow and turquoise waters. The islet of Vendicari and the remains of the ancient tuna fishery can be enjoyed from the beach, where it is not hard to spot flamingos and cormorants. You can also walk or ride a bicycle along several paths surrounded by vegetation, between watchtowers and ruins of saltpans.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Zagare Bay, Puglia</strong></h3>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://www.discover-italy-magazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Baia-delle-Zagare_-Vanda-Biffani.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-1208" width="650" height="387"/></figure></div>

<p>Another fantastic beach located in the Gargano promontory, not far from Mattinata, between high white cliffs overlooking the sea and stacks. Rising from emerald green waters is <a href="https://www.viaggiareinpuglia.it/at/134/parco/5051/en/Baia-delle-Zagare-Mattinata-(Foggia)" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><em>Baia delle Zagare</em></a>&nbsp;&#8211; awarded with the 3 Sails of Legambiente (a well-known environmentalist association). It owes its name to that of the fragrant orange blossoms that bloom nearby. The two stacks of limestone shaped by the wind are distinctive in the Bay. It includes two beaches, divided in two by a cliff: <em>Baia delle Zagare</em> and <em>Baia dei Faraglioni</em>, both of white pebbles. The beaches can be reached by sea or through paths that branch off the main road.</p>
